HUNTING TIPS
Archery Deer Drives- Using 2 or 3 hunters during a drive can be very productive, yes it can and has been done. First position the poster or posters just off the trail in a tree stand about 20 to 25 yards. Make sure you are down wind and secure in the stand. Posters need to be in the woods because once the deer break out in the open they are moving to fast for a good shot.
Next the driver or drivers walk though the woods, They should walk slow and stop every once in a while. The drivers need to zig zag though the woods and go back on their tracks and continue walking. Drivers need to be quiet as they walk. Drives do work but be careful so the posters know where the drivers are.
Getting Lost-Getting lost is something no one thinks about until it is to late. First don't get excited. Stop and think. If you hunt a large area buy a GPS unit. They cost around 200.00 dollars but are worth it. Even if you think you know your way around use one. Practice with which ever one you own so you understand how to use it. They also help to find tree stands you put out so your not searching for it in the early morning hours. Leave a note or a map with the area circled on it where you are going so someone knows where you are hunting. On the note have location and what time you left and plan on coming back. Try not to hunt alone. Put together a small survival kit containing matches, dried food, water, whistle, small rope or cord, cell phone ( you can turn off the ringer) and medical supplies. Buy a map of the area and study it and keep it with you. All though no one plans on getting lost it is better to be prepared then not.
Missed Shot- Have you ever missed a shot only to see the deer run a short distance then stand and give a perfect braodside shot? When you get into your stand and are setup take an arrow out of the quiver and place it in the tree above you or any place that you can get to it with out moving much in case you need it. This way you are not trying to take it out of the quiver.
